Principal's Message

Dear PHS Community,

Welcome to Pacific High School, home of the Sharks!  Thank you for your continued support for our “at-promise” Pacific High School students and families.  We are very proud of our students’ individual growth and resilience and of our collective growth as a school over the last several years.  Our teachers and staff are fully committed to our students' success this school year and look forward to working with them in support of their high school graduation and college/career goals.

As a California Model Continuation High School, we strive to provide our students with engaging, relevant learning opportunities daily.  We accomplish this by leveraging our students strengths, focusing on culturally significant, 21st century content and skills, and by engaging with many community partners.  PHS employs project-based-learning (PBL) options as often as possible and offers concurrent enrollment with Ventura College as well as many Career Technical Education (CTE) classes in our Art, Media, and Entertainment and Agricultural pathways.  We have increased our Arts Instruction options with the help of Prop 28 funding, and continue to offer outstanding elective enrichment options in our grant funded Before/After School ASSETS program.

Pacific High School operates on a daily block schedule that enhances student learning and engagement while providing students and staff with increased opportunities to build on our core values of:  Relationships, Routines, Responsibility, Respect, Results. Our school-wide first period class offers English Language Arts intervention and credit recovery via literature studies. All PHS students read and analyze several novels throughout the school year while participating in extended writing projects. First period is also our foundation for explicit Social Emotional Learning (SEL).  All students participate in these important skill-building activities throughout the year.

PHS has recently been able to increase student support services in several areas with additional state funding.  We are pleased to announce that we will be opening our Wellness Center this year.  The wellness center will have a dedicated counselor and a family liaison staffed to support students and families with access to services both on and off campus. We have employed full-time learning director to strengthen our multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) who provides extensive professional development for our staff while also supporting academic, behavioral and social-emotional interventions for our students. PHS also continues to secure a college and career counselor to better support our seniors in their post-graduation plans.  PHS now has four counselors to support our students academic, professional, and social-emotional needs daily.

We hope you are as inspired by our vision, mission, and core values as we are at Pacific High School.  We are passionate about our work and proud of our school's accomplishments.   We invite you to visit our school to learn more about our outstanding programs and how we support our students’ success.  We welcome all opportunities to serve our students, family, and community.

Sincerely,

Deidre Monarres
